Memphis, Tenn. (November 12, 2012) – Flannery Harper, a senior at Central High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Harper is one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for excellence in Art. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. Harper and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Harper is a highly motivated student who has a genuine desire to learn. She holds a 4.7 weighted grade point average, scored 30 on the ACT and is a talented photographer and artist. During her junior year, Harper submitted a photography portfolio of 2-D design work and scored a ‘5’ from the College Board. She recently received the AP Scholar Award. Harper has been a part of Bridges for five years.
In addition, Harper won second place at the Delta Fair for her drawing of aluminum foil. She currently has a painting of Downtown Memphis on display at the Memphis International Airport. Harper earned a scholarship from the Memphis College of Art for this artwork. At the 2012 Scholastics Art Competition, Harper received a Silver Key and two Honorable Mentions. As a junior, she won the Sewanee Book Award and the Jefferson Award for Community Service. Harper also is a two-time winner of the Memphis City Schools William H. Sweet Award for Academic Excellence.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
